Never arguing with someone who has no conflict with you

Never try to express your differences in a group

I still remember a story in my life. When I was a freshman-year student in university, I found a phenomenon that a most majority of students from Hebei Province pronounce N as /ən/ and pronounce M as /en/.

Actually, I found it firstly when I attended to the first math lesson. At that time my math teacher did it. And I found a lot of students did so. That was weird. What astonished me more was that my English teacher in college did so. One day, I tried to remedy this strange situation. So, in front of my classmates, I tried to correct their pronounciations that N should be pronounced as /en/, not /ən/, and M should be pronounced as /em/, not /en/. I tried by best to teach them how to pronounce these two letters correctly. However, The result didn't come up to my expectation but badness. They all looked at me with weird eyes, which made me feel uncomfortable. And then a lot of students laughed at me and then they tried to correct me with their wrong pronounciations. As a result, I gave up and I was persuaded to do as same as them, though I disdained.

What I went through taught me a lesson that Never ever ever argue with someone who has no conflict with you and the importance is never try to express your differences in a group, or you will get your ass kicked.
